I had no idea where or who I was… but I was curious.
I had no idea who the people around me were… but I trusted.
I had no idea what goals were… but I knew I was hungry.
One thing I believe I’ve done well? Is remain that curious, trusting, hungry baby.
And if you’re still reading, you probably have too.
I’d say I’m 0.01% of the way through my entrepreneurial journey (and yes, that means at age 32, I need to get a move on!), but I am proud of what I’ve built so far.
And finally – after 3.5 years of growing Future Females, I’ve been able to take a breathe, and reflect. To reflect on exactly ‘how’ we got to this point.
My team will joke I always have ‘three things’ to answer any question. So here are, in fact, three things 👇👇
(1) Curiosity
I’ve always been able to see the world for the magical and mysterious place it is. Like seriously… wtf is a giraffe. That childlike wonder is what I take into every moment, and allows me to see opportunity to create, to play, and to build an impactful business that is surpassing even my own wildest dreams.
(2) Trust
I know that the world will only give me what I can handle – that the struggle is only making me more resilient, more determined, and more prepared for what’s to come. Some great advice I received from a mentor is that the ‘”house of cards” (i.e. our precarious early-stage business) will never come down all at once – we’ll be challenged one card at a time, so we can rebuild, stronger than ever.
(3) Hunger
I once asked my co-Founder Cerina, “when will it be enough?”, and her answer was “never”. We will never stop wanting, fighting, or creating what I can to drive our shared purpose. As co-Founders, we often discuss where we each get our energy, and for me – it’s from progress. Progress fuels energy, that fuels even more progress.
So why this blog?
As I write this, I’m working from a beach in Zanzibar. And while yes, I’m LOVING it, and it’s feeding my creativity, this is not just about me.
I want to show every person in the world that they can craft their own version of this crazy life, support themselves with abundant revenue of their own control and creation, through the fearless pursuit of their own joy. THAT is what would make me truly content.
And I DEFINITELY haven’t achieved that yet.
The reality – I’ve spent years sharing ‘how to’ content (and will continue to do so!), but what’s been missing for me and along my journey is seeing inside the raw, juicy, REAL journey of someone a few steps ahead of me – to be inspired by their struggles & successes as I fight along on my own path.
So that’s what this blog is.
I can promise you:
1️⃣ That we’ll go behind the gloss. This blog is not an Instagram feed – it is real life. I want to share with you the REALITY – even the moments where I think “oh my gosh, if I share this, people will think I’m insane…” – in fact, this blog is designed to share EXACTLY those members. Because we all have them, and it’s part of the ride we’ve chosen.
2️⃣ Gestalt. A principle I learnt from EO (Entrepreneurs Organisation), meaning to share experiences, rather than give advice. So this blog is intended to share my experiences – the highs and lows – of the professional & personal side of my journey to and through CEO.
3️⃣ Some FUUNNN. I am 100% hedonist, meaning if something is not fun for me, it’s highly unlikely I’m going to do it. So I’m excited to make this fun, exploratory, and interactive, as we’re all going along this entrepreneurial journey together!
So this was episode #1 of the CEO Diaries – setting my intentions, and the scene, for our time on this blog together. And, I would love your thoughts! Any topics / questions / ideas you have, hit me with them over on Instagram.
And I’ll see you in a few days, in episode #2!
